Downey Hinrichs, MSPT, is a Certified Schroth Therapist. She has been a physical therapist for over 20 years specializing in “boutique therapy” which focuses on each client’s specific needs in a one-to-one environment. She works with each client to create a tailored treatment plan that maximizes corrective outcomes.
Her approach to treating scoliosis is a holistic one that encompasses life-long management. This strategy comes from her personal experience having scoliosis herself and having worn a brace for many years as an adolescent. She also knows the parental perspective given that her daughter has scoliosis and has been wearing custom TLSO braces designed by the NSC for several years. Downey believes strongly in the benefits of Schroth therapy and the positive impact adherence to the prescribed regiment can have with her patients.
Downey received her undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond and her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Miami. She worked in catastrophic rehabilitation for many years before deciding to focus specifically on scoliosis management. She then received her certification in Schroth therapy from Hunter College while training with Axel Hannes. She has her C1 and C2 certification in the BSPTS program with Dr. Manual Rigo and Beth Jansen, PT.
Downey lives with her husband and three children and enjoys spending time with her family and volunteering within the community.
