We are pleased to share that our Fairfax, Virginia office has recently upgraded to a newer EOS® imaging system, enhancing both the imaging experience and the quality of information we can gather to guide care.
Why Imaging Matters in Scoliosis Care
Imaging plays an important role in diagnosing scoliosis and tracking how a spinal curve changes over time. Because many patients require periodic imaging, it is important to balance image quality with radiation exposure.
EOS technology has long been an important part of that approach, offering lower-dose imaging compared to traditional X-rays while capturing the body in a natural, standing position.
What’s New with Our Updated EOS System
The system captures full-body images in a functional, weight-bearing position, allowing us to evaluate how the spine and overall alignment function in everyday posture.
It also provides simultaneous front and side images, helping to create a more complete and consistent assessment without the need for image stitching or reconstruction.
The updated system allows for flexible imaging based on each patient’s needs, including the ability to perform specialized studies such as bending or seated images when appropriate.
Continued Focus on Lower Radiation Exposure
Reducing radiation exposure remains a priority, particularly for pediatric patients.
EOS imaging includes low-dose protocols designed for follow-up and monitoring. In some cases, the Micro Dose protocol delivers radiation levels comparable to approximately one week of natural background exposure.
This allows for ongoing monitoring while helping to limit cumulative exposure over time.
Supporting More Informed Treatment Decisions
With improved imaging consistency and full-body alignment data, the EOS system supports a more comprehensive understanding of each patient’s condition.
This information helps our clinical team develop and adjust treatment plans based on how the spine is functioning in an everyday, weight-bearing position.
Available in Our Fairfax, VA Office
Our EOS imaging system is available only at our Fairfax location.
For families traveling from outside the area, imaging can often be coordinated as part of a broader evaluation visit.
Looking Ahead
Advancements in imaging technology continue to improve how scoliosis is evaluated and managed. Upgrading our EOS system is one of the ways we remain committed to providing thoughtful, patient-centered care.
If you have questions about imaging or your child’s treatment plan, our team is always available to help guide you through the process.
